# Viewing and Editing a Participant's Impulses

An impulse is a credit that allows a participant to make up a missed lesson — every valid reported absence generates one impulse, which the participant can use to sign up for a lesson at a different time. You can manually extend the expiry date of an impulse, grant a participant an additional one, or delete an existing one.

## Changing an impulse expiry date

Go to the *Participants* tab and open the client's profile. In the *Making up absences* section you will see all reported absences, along with the date each impulse expires and a *Change expiry date* button.

Click the button and select the new date you want to extend the impulse to.

## Granting an additional impulse

Go to the *Participants* tab and open the participant's profile. At the bottom you will find the *Making up absences* section. Click *Manage impulses* on the right, then select *Grant an additional impulse*.

When granting the impulse, choose the date it should be valid until.

## Removing or changing the expiry date of additional impulses

To remove an additional impulse, open the participant's profile, go to the *Making up absences* section, and click *Manage impulses*.

From there you can both change the expiry date of impulses and delete them.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.activenow.io/en/absences-and-makeup-classes/managing-impulses.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
